Uramado

The opening portion moves rapidly between Japanese and foreign sources. Ebuchi Akio’s aesthetic illustration portfolio is followed by an Overseas SM Masterpiece Exhibition reproducing the English-language Princess Elaine’s Terrible Fate. The photographic sequence Waves of Hair then shifts the emphasis to Japanese rope bondage, using a domestic interior and a sustained series of poses to explore restraint and bodily expression. Corset in a Japanese Room, Part 1 introduces one of the issue’s most distinctive motifs: Western models in corsets, stockings, gloves, and other fetish clothing staged against tatami, lanterns, and Japanese furnishings. This juxtaposition of imported fetish fashion with Japanese domestic space recurs later in the issue.

The central sections alternate illustrated fantasy with photography. Transforming Beauty Ninja Arts combines historical-fantasy narrative and drawings, while Folding Screen and Andon Lamp uses a traditional room and low-key lighting for a photographic bondage study. Ebuchi Akio’s Cute Rider and Kitō Akira’s period-themed Female Tattooists return to drawing, followed by the photographic Seven Rear Views. Holy Queen and Demon King expands into a sustained historical picture story involving captivity, punishment, spectacle, and eroticized danger. Garden of Beautiful Agony, Advance of the Women’s Army, Poem Among the Trees, and Shadow’s Gaze continue the oscillation between illustration and photographic bondage, with the outdoor setting of Poem Among the Trees providing a particularly atmospheric contrast to the interior sequences.

The later issue becomes increasingly international and experimental. Playing with Belts presents Western-model restraint photography, while American SM Picture Stories reproduces a substantial group of Misfortunes of Muriel episodes built around stocks, suspension, restraint frames, mechanical devices, and female disciplinary scenarios. Poses of Beauty then develops into an extended Japanese photographic study of rope restraint and posing. A single-page Steel Bed feature introduces another Western fetish image before Corset in a Japanese Room resumes for a second long sequence, carrying the cross-cultural corsetry motif through page 154.

The final portion adds material absent from a review stopping at page 150. Room of Solitude, beginning on page 155, is a sixteen-page photographic bondage portfolio centered on a woman restrained in a sheer dress within a modern furnished room. Its subdued lighting, repeated use of a sofa and standing lamp, and occasional accompanying text give it a more introspective and claustrophobic atmosphere than many of the earlier portfolios. Pages 171 through 177 comprise Selected Overseas SM Art: Eerie Basement, a sequence of Western fetish illustrations depicting women subjected to elaborate dungeon restraints, suspension devices, barrels, chains, weights, and mechanical apparatus. The final page is a Uramado back-issue general index and sales notice. Taken as a whole, the special issue presents Japanese rope photography, historical fantasy, female-female erotic imagery, Western corsetry, imported comics, and foreign fetish illustration as parts of a shared international SM visual culture.
