Minomura and Nureki disucss one of his most influential art pieces

This essay by Azusa Kawahara is an amazing piece of historical analysis of the life and work of Nureki Chimuo. I believe this is an important companion piece for the upcoming release of the translation of Nureki’s ‘Talking Theater’ blog, in which he writes about his history, work in the Japanese SM scene, and opines on SM production and modern rope.

Kawahara-san points out that Nureki often is incorrect in his recollections, and because he is the sole narrator of his books and writings, this is an important fact to keep in mind. However, regardless of that, his importance to the development of Japanese SM media cannot be understated.

Kawahara-san has graciously given permission for this translation to be published on Kinbaku Today. I thank her for her in-depth and thorough analysis, and hope that readers enjoy this essay as we continue to work to pull back the veil of kinbaku history.
