Summary
This January 1953 special extra edition of Yomikiri Romance is a single-purpose photographic publication devoted almost entirely to staged images of women in bondage. Issued under the title Etsugyaku Kōkotsu-zu and supervised by Itō Seiu, it differs from a conventional magazine composed of essays, fiction, columns, and advertisements. After the cover, publication information, and title page, the issue unfolds as an extended visual portfolio in which rope, kimono, domestic interiors, outdoor locations, ritual objects, and specially constructed restraints are used to create a sequence of captivity and punishment tableaux.
