Summary
The April 1954 issue of Fūzoku Sōshi is an unusually large and varied publication combining color illustration, staged bondage photography, imported erotic imagery, illustrated historical fantasy, serialized fiction, psychological and sexological essays, autobiographical testimony, roundtable discussion, clinical case writing, reader communications, book notices, and a long sequence of later fiction and confessional material. Its editorial identity depends on treating unconventional sexuality as several things at once: spectacle, artistic subject, personal experience, historical curiosity, psychological problem, and shared field of discussion. The issue moves from richly illustrated front matter into a dense literary body and concludes with correspondence, contributor-oriented departments, publishing information, and additional serialized material.
