Summary

The November 1954 special issue is built around an unusually large visual portfolio followed by essays, confessions, fiction, translated material, and fetish studies. Its opening pages function as a catalogue of bodily positioning and improvised restraint. PDF page 5 arranges women against poles, stools, chairs, and suspended supports, turning the body into a set of geometric problems.

Itō Seiu’s historical illustration on PDF page 6 depicts a woman displayed on a raised punishment structure during the eleventh lunar month. The crowded night setting, torchlight, ropes, and public witnesses make punishment a theatrical social event rather than a private act.

Pages 7–8 continue with illustrated restraint devices using dressers, posts, chains, ladders, buckets, and horizontal platforms. The household interior becomes a modular apparatus. Imported photographs on pages 9–10 introduce Western-style floor bondage and ankle restraints.

The visual material then alternates between nocturnal abduction imagery, circus punishment fantasy, staged female-on-female domination, and outdoor bondage photography. Until She Is Bound, on PDF pages 13–14, shows one woman progressively controlling and restraining another. Attack, on pages 15–18, moves the scene into dense woodland, where ropes, trees, uneven ground, and clothing become parts of the composition.

An illustrated camping fantasy occupies PDF pages 19–22. It combines travel, outdoor bathing, restraint, voyeurism, and comic adventure, giving the opening portfolio a graphic-narrative rhythm.

Pages 23–28 return to staged photography. The sequence includes abdominal-cutting performance, trampling, use of a man as a human horse, striking, rope restraint, and female-on-female domination. These photographs make women active directors of the scene rather than passive subjects.

The visual portfolio concludes with domestic restraint illustrations, chair bondage, bath and shower punishment, acrobatic display, male physique studies, chain restraint, and two-woman rope photography. The issue’s front third therefore presents rope not only as bondage, but as photography, furniture design, theatrical staging, gender reversal, and bodily sculpture.

The main prose section begins with An Examination of Fallacies Appearing in Group Psychology, by Naruise Ryō, on PDF page 39. The essay discusses collective belief, rumor, wartime psychology, ideological conformity, and the danger of confusing social consensus with truth. It is strikingly different from the surrounding erotic material and shows the magazine’s continuing interest in heterodox cultural criticism.

Diary of an Enema Maniac, beginning on PDF page 44, gives a narrowly specific bodily fixation an autobiographical framework. Medical equipment, childhood memory, physical sensation, secrecy, and shame are organized into a continuing personal identity.

Strange Tales of a Year-End Gathering, beginning on PDF page 47, uses the form of a social reunion to assemble erotic memories, grotesque anecdotes, and stories of punishment. The gathering becomes a miniature version of the magazine itself, a place where unusual experiences can be exchanged.

Numa Shōzō’s From a Masochist’s Notebook, beginning on PDF page 53, continues his international archive of masochism. Horse imagery, female authority, literary cases, medicine, performance, and dream interpretation appear across several numbered sections. The recurring notebook format allows theory, memory, translation, and fantasy to coexist without needing a single argument.

Itō Seiu’s Sexual Fluids, Part Ten, beginning on PDF page 61, continues his blend of folklore, bodily custom, prostitution history, sexual anecdote, and antiquarian research. The article moves from intimate bodily detail to urban popular culture, treating socially excluded material as historical evidence.

Love Together with Abuse, beginning on PDF page 65, is a long narrative by Futamata Shizuko. It explores marriage, dependency, jealousy, violence, medical treatment, and emotional manipulation. Its title captures one of Kitan Club’s persistent themes: affection and suffering are represented as entangled rather than clearly separable.

Record of a Boy’s Springtime in a Mining Town, beginning on PDF page 79, by Mikihara Yoshio, combines adolescence, labor, poverty, friendship, punishment, and bodily discipline. The mining settlement supplies an institutional environment in which work hierarchy and youthful vulnerability overlap.

Sadism in Senryū, beginning on PDF page 88, by Urushibara Bunsei, treats cruelty and domination as recurring themes in comic and satirical verse. The essay shows how Kitan Club encouraged readers to locate fetish motifs within established literary genres.

Schoolchild Sumo Training, beginning on PDF page 91, is a confessional narrative involving school discipline, physical contests, bullying, bodily control, and memories of childhood submission. It continues the magazine’s tendency to trace adult desire back through formative experiences.

Longing for Seppuku and Suicide, beginning on PDF page 96, by Hyōdō Ren’ichi, examines abdominal cutting through literature, personal fascination, historical imagery, and emotional identification. It belongs to the magazine’s broader project of converting a specific fixation into an archive of references and testimonies.

The Woman Bound by Eight Men, beginning on PDF page 99, by Kishimoto Seiryū, combines a rope narrative with photographs of outdoor and indoor restraint. It treats multiple-person control as spectacle, while the images place the bound figure against trees, wooden walls, and domestic architecture.

Three-Point Pulse, beginning on PDF page 103, by Hasegawa Kiyoshi, uses a medical or bodily concept as the basis for a story about illness, intimacy, examination, and sexual anxiety.

Collection: From My Scrapbook, beginning on PDF page 108, by Saji Kōsuke, continues the author’s fragmentary method. Memories, clippings, fantasies, drawings, and bodily scenes are arranged as an erotic scrapbook rather than a conventional story.

The Dreamer of the Seventh Heaven, beginning on PDF page 113, by Asō Kazuo, is a comic and autobiographical catalogue of fantasies. Obesity, transformation, voyeurism, bodily exaggeration, and social embarrassment are presented as episodes within a private dream world.

Manifestations of Female Wrestling Beauty, beginning on PDF page 122, by Shichifuku Shihei, studies women’s wrestling through posture, balance, strength, costume, bodily contact, and spectacle. The illustrations reduce wrestlers to dark silhouettes, emphasizing leverage and movement.

A Single Flower, beginning on PDF page 127, by Kataya Kaoru, is a historical narrative involving feudal authority, punishment, loyalty, and social disorder. Its illustrations depict public violence, pursuit, execution, and bodily suspension.

Morimoto Aizō’s translated Cruel Women, beginning on PDF page 141, continues the German-titled Das Grausame Weib series. The installment surveys women associated with violence, crime, domination, and punishment in European history and literature.

The final work, Diary of a Bloomers Maniac, begins on PDF page 147 and continues through PDF page 150. It focuses on women’s athletic clothing, observation, memory, youth culture, bodily shape, and the fetishization of bloomers. The issue closes with this personal record rather than with separate publication matter.

Across all 150 pages, the November issue presents Kitan Club as a visual workshop, literary journal, fetish encyclopedia, and confessional network. It moves from elaborate restraint imagery to group psychology, enema fixation, masochistic history, school discipline, seppuku, female wrestling, historical punishment, and clothing fetishism. Its language and ethics remain products of the 1950s, but the issue is valuable evidence of a readership learning to classify and narrate highly specific desires.
