Nagaoka Hen’ichirō’s Confession of a Self-Tormenting Demon is a substantial autobiographical statement tracing obsessive interests in restraint imagery, masochism, sexual compulsion, and the narrator’s attempts to reconcile fantasy with ordinary work and domestic life.
