Summary

The October 1974 issue of Kitan Club combines an unusually extensive opening bondage portfolio with documentary reportage, serialized fiction, confessional writing, reader-oriented SM essays, and discussions of technique and fantasy. The front section is dominated by photographs of women in rope bondage, ranging from simple first-binding poses to gags, suspension, breast bondage, floor restraint, paired models, and more elaborate positional compositions. Several models are identified individually, and photographer Tsukamoto Tetsuzō receives prominent credit. The portfolio moves from monochrome studies into color plates, establishing rope, posture, embarrassment, and the photographed body as the issue’s central visual vocabulary.

The principal opening article, Tsukamoto Tetsuzō’s Scenes from a Long-Distance Expedition to Echizen, is an extended camera-and-pen SM reportage feature. It follows a trip involving photographer, model, and fellow enthusiasts, blending travel narrative, conversations about SM collecting and photography, and a sustained photographic session with model Hori Kiyoko. Its self-conscious discussion of posing, embarrassment, photographic documentation, and the relationship between amateur participants and an organized SM milieu makes it one of the issue’s strongest documents of contemporary subcultural practice.

The middle of the issue shifts into fiction and first-person sexual narratives. Suwa Ōji Ken’s Again: Black Breasts revisits an M-woman theme, while Saji Mazō’s Female Prisoner continues the M Group’s collaborative fiction. Becoming Lady Sayoko’s Toilet presents a confessional humiliation fantasy. Chiba Seiki’s Great Eruption continues a long-running serialized novel, followed by Memories of My Wife and Enemas and Oniyama Kensaku’s serialized Muddy Sea of Folly. The Gate of Purple Orchids by Fūryū Gokudōken extends the magazine’s period-SM fiction, while From Flower and Snake explicitly engages with a major title in Japanese SM culture.

Later contributions move between club testimony, personal admiration, bodily experience, and specialist rope culture. Conversation on a Rainy Night records attendance at an SM Research Society gathering. A Wonderful Person to Me and Two Scarlet Peonies offer further experiential or narrative material. Female Pregnancy and Shame Torment combines pregnancy with humiliation fantasy, while Palm-Fiber Rope Story treats rope itself as an object of interest. Waiting by the West Window and Genealogy of Torture Illustrations close the surviving editorial sequence, the latter approaching images of female torment through historical and visual-cultural commentary.

Across the issue, Kitan Club presents SM not simply as fiction but as a network of photography, collecting, amateur participation, clubs, correspondence, personal confession, historical imagery, and specialized erotic practice. The formal contents also advertises later reader and salon material beyond the surviving pagination, showing the broader communal structure in which the issue was originally organized.
