Rope is used for standing spread-eagle restraint, ankle suspension, compact floor ties, gagging, breast and torso harnesses, wrists bound behind the back, and poses involving trees, posts, furniture, and architectural supports. Short captions transform these tableaux into miniature narratives of sacrifice, captivity, sorrow, frenzy, and private punishment. The final extended story, “Lesbos Day,” shifts toward female same-sex desire and social observation.
