Three Days Before Filming “Hostage”
As I prepare for the upcoming shoot of “Hostage” before I even start thinking about lighting or the cameraman (though those are certainly important too), there’s something more fundamental, my own issue, that I need to think about more deeply.
That is the issue of shibari.
When I think about it, since the show is billed as a bondage drama, it stands to reason that I must focus my attention most intently on the bondage and exercise the utmost care.
I had carelessly neglected to do so.
No, it’s not that I had neglected it.
Since it’s my own responsibility, I thought I could just think it through on set and adjust the ropes on the fly in response to my partner’s movements.
(Reacting on the spot is my speciality.)
This time, I’ll be tying up two women.
Depending on their reactions, my movements with the ropes will change. The dialogue will likely change as well.
I thought I could just go with my own instincts.
That had been my approach on set for the past five thousand and some shoots.
But now, I felt it was better to think this through properly at least once and engrave it in my mind.
The bondage specialist holding the rope stands behind the female model. Then, as if to say, “I’ve been waiting for this,” the model puts her hands behind her back on her own, striking a pose that says, “Okay, go ahead, tie me up.”
There’s absolutely no sense of tension.
I vowed to myself once again that in “Hostage,” I would absolutely avoid staging such a loose, casual scene that feels like a friendly game of “pretend bondage.”
Tying up a model who’s easy to tie up doesn’t make it SM.
The appeal and true thrill of SM lie in managing to tie up a woman who is difficult to tie.
It’s obvious.
Yet, this obvious fact is almost entirely ignored in today’s videos. They are nothing but unstimulating “pretend bondage” scenes.
The reason I keep harping on this point is that it is the most crucial aspect of “Hostage.”
Even in “Married Woman Confinement Bar” from the “Too Cute to Handle” Series 1, I am certain I didn’t use the kind of restraints that would immediately give away such a lack of authenticity.
If a woman who has been kidnapped and confined were to voluntarily put her hands behind her back, wouldn’t the drama’s realism and appeal vanish instantly?
We’ve seen more than enough footage of models voluntarily putting their hands behind their backs while a man ties their wrists with a pretentious air.
There have been far too many videos that look like “how-to” tutorials on tying people up. Who on earth would buy that these days?
(I write this repeatedly as a reminder to myself. I haven’t counted exactly, but I alone have appeared in over a thousand videos of that kind.)
I have a request for Shion and Fuyuki, the two actors appearing in “Hostage.”
For this shoot, I absolutely want you to refrain from putting your hands behind your back on your own.
If you show even the slightest hint of doing so, I will grab your wrists even harder and more roughly, and forcefully twist them behind your back with all my strength to stop you.
At that moment, the woman captured by the “bad guy” I’m playing must feel fear and resist.
She must look for an opening and try to escape.
However, I don’t want them to take that resistance of those escape attempts too seriously.
This is the tricky part.
If you resist for real, there’s no way I’ll be able to tie you up.
(Maybe I should write “laughter” here?)
It’s been twenty years now, but I once conducted an experiment using Hiromi Saotome as a model.
I was surprised.
I just couldn’t tie her up, and I ended up panting and losing my nerve.
A woman’s strength when she resists is far greater than a man could ever imagine. At that moment, I took it to heart.
I seem to recall writing about this somewhere recently as well.
If a woman puts her all into it, a man simply can’t compete.
That’s why I want you to keep your resistance strictly “acted,” Shion-san and Fuyuki-san.
As for me, I’ll tie you up quite forcefully and roughly.
(I can’t be bothered with such wimpy concerns as whether the tying is beautiful or messy.)
While tying you up, I’ll probably say something that sounds the part.
For example, “If you’d just behaved yourself and listened to what I said, you wouldn’t have to go through this pain.” Or something like that.
man.
At that moment, you two must genuinely hurl words of disgust and rejection at this bad
(That said, since there are a lot of scenes with you tied up, you probably won’t be able to actually speak.)
If you stay silent and look like you’re ecstatically savoring the taste of the rope, I’ll tighten the ropes even more until you let out a genuine groan.
If you look like you’re enjoying it, I’ll make you scream for real with a binding that’s two or three times as tight as the ones in the “Binding Techniques Workshop,” one that cuts into your skin right to the limit.
This time, I’m not just the usual bondage specialist, I’m the bad guy who’s kidnapped and imprisoned two women. I won’t show you any mercy.
